(Bloomberg) — Kenya’s Supreme Court upheld William Ruto’s victory in last month’s presidential election, dismissing his rival Raila Odinga’s claims that the vote was marred by rigging and irregularities.
The petition is dismissed, the seven-member court said in a unanimous decision read by Chief Justice Martha Koome on Monday.
The official results showed Ruto, currently the deputy president, winning 50.5% support in the Aug. 9 vote and Odinga, a former prime minister, 48.8%. The judgment paves the way for Ruto, 55, to be sworn in as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor next week.
The court’s ruling is final can’t be appealed.
