Top candidates for the role of Norway’s central bank governor will be assessed on their impartiality before the position can be filled, according to a media report.
Norway’s Finance Ministry has asked the Justice Ministry’s legal department to review the impartiality of Jens Stoltenberg and Ida Wolden Bache, Dagens Naeringsliv reports, citing a senior adviser at the ministry. It is looking to ensure the hiring process remains impartial, after many questioned Stoltenberg’s close friendship with Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.
NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg has emerged as the favored candidate to become the next central bank chief after Governor Oystein Olsen steps down next year. Deputy Governor Wolden Bache was initially seen as the front runner.
